I need help with FUN!

« previous entry | next entry »

This whole long distance relationship thing would be a lot more fun if I could actively do something together with Rasmus (that didn't require a lot of money - like Warcraft).

Do any of you have any suggestions for free fun online games that 2 people can play together?

Thanks!

EDIT: I mean even a simple board game would do. Like chess or scrabble.

Maple Story! It's kind of cutesy though. There's also various Ragnarok Online private servers.

Oh yay! My long distance beau and I have developed a few interactions over the years... he's in Toronto, I'm in California. Hopefully not apart for much longer.

Yahoo games, as mentioned above, is actually quite great. We're regulars at chess and pool. Bonus: strip pool!

Watching shows/movies at streaming places like www.sidereel.com, www.surfthechannel.com, and www.joox.net is always good option.

When it comes to bigger games, you can download them along with CD keys from any torrent site, like www.thepiratebay.com. I'm personally a fan of Civilization, since it's great with just two players and there's a good chat function along with it.

(even) More frivolously, there are always online quizzes and surveys to fill out and send to each other. Or one internet meme that we adapted as an ongoing exchange- asking each other questions, and answering them by putting our iTunes on shuffle. i.e., "Think I'd get along with your mother?" "The Bitch is Back - Elton John" D'oh!

Rene you both have Facebook which has a thousand games, including Chess and Scrabble. And Skype has a bunch of games too.

Skype for Mac doesn't support games.

For some reason I don't trust Facebook applications. I tried downloading battleship for facebook and it sent out an invitation to friends without me even wanting it to. I was pretty upset about that so I deleted it. I am trying to avoid Fejsbok completely. But if you know of one that isn't going to spam my friends I'm all ears. :)

MSN used to have games you could play together, not sure if it still does? I used to play an online billiards game with my ex, that was pretty fun, or we would play chess or scrabble together. If you look up online scrabble club I think there is a program you can download and play against each other. Internet Scrabble Club, I think that's what it's called.

Ever played Kingdom of Loathing? There's not all that much of a team player aspect to it but the amusement factor is high!

It's still in BETA and definitely plays that way, but Gaia Online has a very simple MMORPG called "zOMG!" that you can play with friends (and strangers) in groups.

>.o Ohh warcraft. That's what me and my boyfriend do when we're not together. It's cost me a small fortune so far, but I'm beginning to think it's worth it. It's way more fun than I expected it to be. Not good if you don't have much time to play it though.

I second the Maplestory suggestion. That game's adorable~

There's some really good online drawing games. Kinda like pictionary... I'm trying to remember all the websites for them though... Depends on whether or not HE likes to draw. I could look for them later after class if you're interested?

www.kongregate.com is a great casual gaming site with free flash games and has a section for multiplayer games. There is a fairly wide selection and personally I would recommend Starland Tower Defence if you like that kind of game. You can also make accounts on kongregate and unlock achievements similar to modern console games. All in all a great website that gives credit and support to the game creators.

Tetrinet is a fun multi-player version of Tetris where you can attack other players by sending blocks at them and the like.

For abstract strategy board games, there's not better place than BoardSpace: http://www.boardspace.net/english/index.shtml
I highly recommend Hive.
The Blokus board games can also be played online: http://www.blokus.com/online-game/

What about Battleship? I mean the real-life one, not online -- you could each have half of the game and play over skype. You'd have to make your own explody noises, but I think it'd still be fun!

My friend and I enjoy watching Mystery Science Theater 3000 online over youtube or surfthechanel.com and laughing at the horrible movies and amazing jokes provided by the gang. Always a good time, and it's a fun way to feel like you are actually hanging out with the other person even though they are far away.

You could both do Second Life.

And don't the program Open Canavas have some sort of chat mode? That way you can scribble togheter... Unless both of you draw enough on your sparetime that is.

WordSteal is awesome: http://wordsteal.com/ It's based on an old game called WordOx that I used to play with my friends, and it's basically Scrabble with the ability to steal points fro mthe other player. If you make a word that belongs to the other player longer, it becomes your word and they lose the points that they got from the original word. It's very sneaky. :3

You can snag a copy of "Worms Armageddon" (brilliant turn-based strategy game) for 5 Pound Sterling (I'd use the symbol but I'm using my girlfriend's Macbook and I'll be buggered if I can figure out how to type it on this thing). Online plat is free. And awesome. The game's a decade old now but they're still releasing patches and updates to this day.

You can buy it from Amazon UK (or you could wait until March and buy it from a PC World or GAME while you're there for the Thing). I bet you can probably find it cheaper than a fiver there, too.
